Joseph Wu's Origami Gallery
All of the models in this gallery were designed and folded by Joseph Wu.
Enjoy!
- Autumn Scene: Forest Floor
-

A display case installation at the UBC Bookstore.
- Centaur II
-

My second centaur design.
- Eastern Dragon
-

An eastern (Chinese) dragon. Made from a rectangle, the length of which
determines the length of the body.
- Ermine (Weasel)
-

Challenged by Vancouver paperfolder Julie Bodewein who wanted some
endangered species models. The ermine is the winter form of
the short-tailed weasel. The summer form is called a stoat
(which can be folded from brown and white paper).
- Extraterrestrial
-

Based on "E.T." but of course, that character is a registered trademark,
so we'll all pretend that this isn't the same thing, right?
- Gryphon
-

Paperfolder Seanan Forbes talked to me about trying to fold a gryphon when
I was at Convention '94 in New York, and therefore she inspired this model.
- Mule
-

This mule is folded from a 2×1 rectangle. Canadian currency is close
to this ratio (it's actually 24×11), so I sometimes fold mules out of
$2 bills and leave them as tips at restaurants. I have yet to fold anything
out of Japanese currency since the smallest bill is worth about US$10.
- Octagonal Functional Plate
-

The top surface is continuous, so if you made it large enough, it could
actually hold something. Unfortunately, people always seem to ask if it
isn't a McDonald's ashtray.
- Rose Base
-

Designed to complement Kawasaki's Rose which was published
in Kasahara's Origami for the Connoisseur.
- Star-nosed Mole
-

Created as a result of a formal origami challenge issued by paperfolder Ramsay
"R.C." Cowlishaw of Portland, OR.
- Teddy Bear
-

I gave origami lapel pins/brooches as Christmas presents in 1993,
and I needed a teddy bear for one of them. This design was the result.
- Three-banded Armadillo
-

Challenged by
Paul Lalonde.
Actually, the challenge was to make one that could actually roll up into
a ball. I'm still working on that aspect!
- Western Dragon
-

The underlying structure of this dragon is identical to the famous
dragon by Robert Neale, but was independently re-created by me.
- When Pigs Grow Wings and Fly
-

Challenged by Dotty Pon at a New Year's Eve party.
- Winged Ant
-

Based on Robert Lang's Cicada from The Complete Book of
Origami. I guess it's a stretch to call this my design since the
structure is essentially the same as the original, but look of the
finished model is quite different.
